Important Narration for HSC 2026

ইংরেজি ২য় পত্রের Narration for HSC বা Speech Change (Direct to Indirect এবং Vice Versa) হলো একটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ব্যাকরণগত রূপান্তর। নিচে প্রতিটি অনুশীলনীতে সঠিক রূপান্তর এবং তার ব্যাখ্যা দেওয়া হলো।

এই রূপান্তরের মূলনীতিগুলো হলো:

  1. Reporting Verb (said)-এর পরিবর্তন (ask, tell, cried, exclaimed ইত্যাদি)।
  2. Inverted Comma তুলে দিয়ে Conjunction (that, if/whether, to, W/H word) ব্যবহার।
  3. TensePerson (Pronouns)-এর পরিবর্তন।
  4. Adverbial Words-এর পরিবর্তন (now → then, today → that day ইত্যাদি)।

 

1. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Oh, my Lord! Please do not kill the child,” cried the woman, “Let her have the child.” The king said, “Now everything is clear to me.” Pointing to the woman, the king again said to the servant, “Give her the child. She is the real mother.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

The woman cried out to her Lord with respect and begged him not to kill the child and proposed that the other woman should have the child. The king said that then everything was clear to him. Pointing to the woman, the king again told the servant to give her the child and added that she was the real mother.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: “Oh, my Lord! Please do not kill the child,” বাক্যটি আবেগ ও অনুরোধ প্রকাশ করে। তাই Reporting Verb হিসেবে cried out এবং begged ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। Please থাকায় Imperative Sentence-এর নিয়ম অনুসারে to not kill বসেছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: “Let her have the child” একটি Proposal/Wish। এখানে proposed that + Subject + should/Simple Past form বসেছে।

তৃতীয় বাক্য: “Now everything is clear to me.” Assertive Sentence-এর নিয়ম অনুসারে said that বসেছে এবং Tense (is → was), Pronoun (me → him) এবং Adverb (now → then) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ ও পঞ্চম বাক্য: “Give her the child. She is the real mother.” প্রথমটি Imperative Sentence, তাই told... to give হয়েছে। দ্বিতীয়টি Assertive, যা and added that দিয়ে যুক্ত হয়েছে।

 

2. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: The king said to the astrologer, “How long do you want to live? For you will be hanged very soon.” Looking at the sky the astrologer said, “My Lord, the positions of the stars declare that I’ll die only a week before your Majesty. Goodbye.” The king turned pale and ordered his courtiers, “Drive this wretch away and never allow him to come for disturbing peace.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

The king asked the astrologer how long he wanted to live and added that he would be hanged very soon. Looking at the sky, the astrologer respectfully addressed the king as his Lord and declared that the positions of the stars declared that he would die only a week before his Majesty. He then bade him goodbye. The king turned pale and ordered his courtiers to drive that wretch away and never to allow him to come for disturbing peace.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence-এর নিয়ম অনুসারে asked বসেছে এবং W/H word (how long) Conjunction হিসেবে কাজ করেছে। Tense (do you want → he wanted) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: Assertive Sentence-এর নিয়ম অনুসারে said that বা declared বসেছে। My Lord এর জন্য respectfully addressed the king as his Lord ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। Tense (I’ll die → he would die) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় বাক্য: Goodbye এর জন্য bade him goodbye (বিদায় জানানো) ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: Imperative Sentence-এর নিয়ম অনুসারে ordered এবং to drive বসেছে। and never allow অংশটি and never to allow হিসেবে যুক্ত হয়েছে।

 

3. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Why are your children crying, my daughter?” “They have been starving,” said the woman. “Have you none else in the world?” “My husband died some months ago. He left them neither money nor any property. So, they are in great distress. They have to starve sometimes.” “What a pity it is!” said the Caliph.

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

The Caliph asked the woman why her children were crying and affectionately addressed her as his daughter. The woman replied that they had been starving. The Caliph again asked her if she had none else in the world. The woman replied that her husband had died some months before. She added that he had left them neither money nor any property; so they were in great distress and had to starve sometimes. The Caliph exclaimed with pity that it was a great pity.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence-এর নিয়ম অনুসারে asked এবং W/H word (why) Conjunction হিসেবে কাজ করেছে। my daughter এর জন্য affectionately addressed her as his daughter ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। Tense (are crying → were crying) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: Assertive Sentence। Present Perfect Continuous → Past Perfect Continuous।

তৃতীয় প্রশ্ন: Yes/No Question, তাই if Conjunction হিসেবে বসেছে। Tense (Have you → she had) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: Past Indefinite (died) $\rightarrow$ Past Perfect (had died) এবং lefthad leftarewere হয়েছে। had to starve (বাধ্যবাধকতা) পরিবর্তিত হয়নি।

শেষ বাক্য: Exclamatory Sentence। exclaimed with pity that বসেছে এবং Tense (is → was) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

4. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Where will you get admission after your HSC Examination? Do you have any choice?” said the teacher to Susmita. “I’m not yet sure what I have to do because everything depends on my result.” “You should have a choice. Be positive and optimistic.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

The teacher asked Susmita where she would get admission after her HSC Examination and also asked if she had any choice. Susmita replied that she was not yet sure what she had to do because everything depended on her result. The teacher advised her that she should have a choice and ordered her to be positive and optimistic.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: দুটি Interrogative Sentence. প্রথমটির জন্য W/H word (where) এবং Tense (will → would) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে। দ্বিতীয়টির জন্য and also asked if এবং Tense (do you have → she had) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: Assertive Sentence। amwas, have tohad to, dependsdepended হয়েছে।

শেষ বাক্য: You should have a choice (Assertive) এবং Be positive (Imperative)-এর মিশ্রণ। advised her that she should have এবং and ordered her to be দিয়ে যুক্ত হয়েছে।

 

5. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “What’s a puppet show?” Mita said to her father. Father said, “Let’s go inside and you can see yourself.” Inside the tent Mita said, “How strange! A doll is dancing and talking.” Father said, “A man behind the screen is moving the doll. Do you understand who is talking?”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

Mita asked her father what a puppet show was. Father proposed that they should go inside and added that Mita could see herself. Inside the tent Mita exclaimed with wonder that it was very strange that a doll was dancing and talking. Father said that a man behind the screen was moving the doll and asked Mita if she understood who was talking.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence। What's (What is)what... was হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: Let's দ্বারা Proposal বোঝানো হয়েছে, তাই proposed that they should go inside ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। cancould হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় বাক্য: Exclamatory Sentence। How strange এর জন্য exclaimed with wonder that it was very strange ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। Tense (is dancing → was dancing) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: প্রথম অংশ Assertive। Tense (is moving → was moving) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

পঞ্চম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence। and asked Mita if she understood (Tense: do understand → understood) এবং who was talking (Tense: is talking → was talking) দিয়ে যুক্ত হয়েছে।

 

6. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “What kind of stories did Aesop tell?” asked Anwar. “Fables,” replied Mr. Rahman. “Do you know what fables are?” “No,” replied Anwar. “Well,” continued Mr. Rahman, “Fables are stories with a moral. And Aesop entertained people by telling these stories.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

Anwar asked Mr. Rahman what kind of stories Aesop had told. Mr. Rahman replied that they were fables. Mr. Rahman then asked Anwar if he knew what fables were. Anwar replied in the negative. Mr. Rahman then continued that fables were stories with a moral and added that Aesop had entertained people by telling those stories.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence। Simple Past (did… tell) → Past Perfect (had told) হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: উত্তরটি Noun/Phrase-এ দেওয়া, তাই replied that they were fables (বাক্যটিকে সম্পূর্ণ করে) লেখা হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় প্রশ্ন: Yes/No Question। asked if he knew এবং Tense (are → were) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ উত্তর: No এর জন্য replied in the negative ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

শেষ বাক্য: Assertive Sentence। continued that বসেছে। General Truth (Fables are stories with a moral) হওয়ায় Tense (are) পরিবর্তিত হয়নি। তবে দ্বিতীয় অংশের Tense (entertained) → Past Perfect (had entertained) এবং thesethose পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

7. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Stop. Didn’t I tell you to stop? You cannot go there,” said the sergeant. “Oh! very well, it is hard thing to be very poor. All the world is against the poor,” said the man.

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

The sergeant ordered the man to stop and asked him if he had not told him to stop and forbade him to go there. The man exclaimed sadly that it was a very hard thing to be very poor and added that all the world was against the poor.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: একাধিক বাক্য। “Stop” একটি Imperative Sentence, তাই ordered... to stop বসেছে। “Didn’t I tell you to stop?” একটি Interrogative Sentence (Yes/No Question), তাই asked if এবং Tense (Simple Past → Past Perfect) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে। “You cannot go there” একটি Negative Imperative বা Forbidding, তাই forbade him to go there দিয়ে যুক্ত করা হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: “Oh! very well” দ্বারা গভীর দুঃখ বা অসহায়ত্ব বোঝানো হয়েছে, তাই exclaimed sadly ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। বাকি Assertive Sentence-এ Tense (is → was) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

8. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Could I help you, Sir?” said the receptionist. The man replied, “Sure, I want to meet the Managing Director of the company.” The receptionist said, “Do you have an appointment?” “Yes, I have,” he said. “Wait for a while,” said the receptionist.

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

The receptionist politely asked the man if he could help him. The man replied in the affirmative/replied assuredly and said that he wanted to meet the Managing Director of the company. The receptionist then asked if he had an appointment. The man replied that he had. The receptionist ordered him to wait for a while.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: “Could I help you, Sir?” একটি polite request (Interrogative Sentence)। asked... if he could help him এবং Sir-এর জন্য politely asked ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: “Sure” এর জন্য replied assuredly বা replied in the affirmative ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে। Simple Present (want) → Simple Past (wanted) হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় ও চতুর্থ বাক্য: Yes/No Question (Do you have) → asked if he had। উত্তরের জন্য replied that he had (Tense: have → had) ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

শেষ বাক্য: Imperative Sentence। ordered him to wait বসেছে।

 

9. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: Jerry said, “I can chop some wood today.” “But I have a boy coming from the orphanage.” “I’m the boy.” “You? But you are small.” “Size does not matter, chopping wood,” Jerry said, “Some of the big boys don’t chop good. I’ve been chopping wood at the orphanage for a long time.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

Jerry said that he could chop some wood that day. The other person exclaimed in surprise and objected that she had a boy coming from the orphanage. Jerry immediately asserted that he was the boy. The person expressed wonder at this and added that he was small. Jerry replied that size did not matter in chopping wood and added that some of the big boys did not chop well. He further added that he had been chopping wood at the orphanage for a long time.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Tense (can → could) এবং Adverb (today → that day) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: But I have দ্বারা আপত্তি বোঝানো হয়েছে, তাই objected that she had ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় বাক্য: I'm the boy দ্বারা জোরালো দাবি, তাই asserted that he was ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: “You?” দ্বারা বিস্ময়, তাই expressed wonder at this

পঞ্চম বাক্য: “Size does not matter…” একটি সাধারণ সত্য, তাই Simple Present Tense (does not matterdid not matter) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

শেষ বাক্য: Present Perfect Continuous (I’ve been chopping) $\rightarrow$ Past Perfect Continuous (he had been chopping) হয়েছে।

 

10. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Where do you come from?” I asked him. “From San Carlos,” he said, and smiled. “I was taking care of animals.” “Oh,” I said, not quite understanding. “Yes,” he said, “I stayed, you see, taking care of animals. I was the last one to leave the town of San Carlos.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

I asked him where he came from. He replied that he came from San Carlos and smiled. He added that he had been taking care of animals. I exclaimed in confusion and said that I was not quite understanding. He replied in the affirmative and said that he had stayed, as I could see, taking care of animals. He finally added that he had been the last one to leave the town of San Carlos.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence। Simple Present (do you come) → Simple Past (he came) হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: Noun/Phrase-এ উত্তর, তাই replied that he came from ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় বাক্য: Past Continuous (was taking) → Past Perfect Continuous (had been taking) হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: “Oh” দ্বারা Confusion বা Surprise বোঝানো হয়েছে, তাই exclaimed in confusion ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

শেষ বাক্য: I stayed → Past Perfect (had stayed) এবং I was → Past Perfect (had been) হয়েছে। you see এর জন্য as I could see (Contextual Change) ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

 

11. Narrative Style Change (Indirect to Direct)

Indirect Speech: Shouting to the monkey the two rats told him to stop and added that he was eating all their bread. The monkey said that he was doing his best, but he had told them that it was very difficult. Then the rats asked him to give them that little piece. At this the monkey told them that that was his piece and asked them if he had not laboured a lot for them. At this the rats exclaimed with repentance that they were very foolish believing him.

সমাধান (Direct Speech)

The two rats shouted at the monkey, “Stop! We told you to stop. You are eating all our bread.” The monkey said, “I am doing my best, but I told you that this is very difficult.” Then the rats said to him, “Please give us this little piece.” At this the monkey said, “That is my piece. Haven’t I laboured a lot for you?” At this the rats exclaimed, “Alas! We were very foolish to believe you!”

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: told him to stop → Imperative Sentence-এ “Stop!”he was eating → Present Continuous Tense-এ “You are eating…”। (Pronoun: their → our)।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: he was doing → Present Continuous Tense-এ “I am doing…”he had told them → Simple Past Tense-এ “I told you…”it was very difficult → Present Tense-এ “this is very difficult”

তৃতীয় বাক্য: asked him to give → Imperative (request)-এ “Please give us this little piece.” (that → this)।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: that was his piece → Present Tense-এ “That is my piece.”had not laboured → Present Perfect Tense-এ “Haven’t I laboured…”

শেষ বাক্য: exclaimed with repentance → Exclamatory word “Alas!”they were very foolish → Simple Past Tense-এ “We were very foolish…”

 

12. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: “Whose picture is it?” I asked. “A little girl’s, of course,” said Grandmother. “Can’t you tell?” “Yes, but do you know the girl?” “Yes, I knew her”, said Granny “but she was a very wicked girl and I shouldn’t tell you about her.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

I asked whose picture it was. Grandmother replied that it was a little girl’s, of course, and asked if I could not tell. I replied in the affirmative and asked if she knew the girl. Granny replied in the affirmative and said that she had known her but added that she had been a very wicked girl and she should not tell me about her.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: Interrogative Sentence। W/H word (whose) Conjunction হিসেবে কাজ করেছে। Tense (is → was) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় বাক্য: Noun/Phrase-এ উত্তর। Can't you tell? একটি Yes/No Question, যা and asked if I could not tell দিয়ে যুক্ত হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় প্রশ্ন: Interrogative Sentence। Yes/No Question (do you know), তাই asked if she knew হয়েছে।

শেষ বাক্য: Assertive Sentence। knew (Simple Past) → had known (Past Perfect) হয়েছে। was (Simple Past) → had been (Past Perfect) হয়েছে। shouldn't (Modal) অপরিবর্তিত রয়েছে।

 

13. Narrative Style Change (Direct to Indirect)

Direct Speech: A cat hearing that a hen was laid up sick in her nest, paid her a visit of condolence and said, “How are you, my dear? What can I do for you? Only tell me. Is there anything in the world that I can bring for you?” “Thank you,” said the hen. “Do you be good enough to leave me, and I have no fear but I shall soon be well.”

সমাধান (Indirect Speech)

A cat hearing that a hen was laid up sick in her nest, paid her a visit of condolence and asked affectionately how she was. The cat further asked what it could do for her and requested her only to tell it. The cat also asked if there was anything in the world that it could bring for her. The hen thanked the cat and requested it to be good enough to leave her and added that she had no fear but she would soon be well.

ব্যাখ্যা

প্রথম বাক্য: said এর পরিবর্তে আবেগপূর্ণ প্রশ্নগুলির জন্য and asked affectionately ব্যবহৃত হয়েছে।

প্রথম প্রশ্ন: Interrogative Sentence। How are youhow she was হয়েছে।

দ্বিতীয় প্রশ্ন: Interrogative Sentence। What can I dowhat it could do হয়েছে।

তৃতীয় প্রশ্ন: Interrogative Sentence। Is there anythingasked if there was anything এবং Tense (can → could) পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

চতুর্থ বাক্য: “Thank you” → thanked the cat

পঞ্চম বাক্য: Imperative Sentence। Do you be good enoughrequested it to be good enough (to leave me/her)।

শেষ অংশ: Assertive Sentence। I haveshe had এবং I shallshe would পরিবর্তিত হয়েছে।

মনে রাখবে: Speech Change-এর সময় বাক্যের Tense, Pronoun, এবং Adverbial Change এর পাশাপাশি Reporting Verb নির্বাচন করা সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ, যা বাক্যের আবেগ ও উদ্দেশ্য (প্রশ্ন, অনুরোধ, ঘোষণা, বিস্ময় ইত্যাদি) প্রকাশ করবে।
